I Am Lord Vocations Conference Hosts
Nationally-Recognized Speakers in
the Chicago Area Feb. 22-25
More than 3,000 people
are expected to attend the fifth
annual Here I Am Lord Vocations Conference
Feb. 22-25 in St. Charles, IL. The
conference is hosted by St. Patrick
Catholic Church and will take place
at their church located at 6N491 Crane
Road in St. Charles .
This annual event,
the largest parish-based vocations
conference in the United States,
features the finest Catholic speakers,
authors, and musicians from across
the country. With over 1,500 already
registered, an additional 1,500 are
expected to attend all or part of
the 4-day event, which offers a variety
of opportunities to grow in understanding
of the question facing all Catholics, "What
Does God want?"
Thursday, February
22, the Conference will begin at
7:00 pm with a talk by internationally
known speaker Matthew Kelly. Kelly
has spoken to more than 3 million
people in over 50 countries during
the last ten years, and has sold
more than a million copies of his
published works. Kelly will be giving
two talks, “Listening to God” and “Rediscovering
Catholicism.” A Eucharistic Holy Hour
will take place at 8:00 pm and separate
his talks. A Holy Hour is a Catholic
tradition of spending an hour in front
of the exposed Blessed Sacrament in
prayer. As stated by Mother Teresa, “ Eucharistic
Adoration offers to our people the
opportunity to join those in religious
life to pray for the salvation of the
world, souls everywhere and peace on
earth. We cannot underestimate the
power of prayer and the difference
it will make in our world."
Friday, February 23, students
from 6th through 12th grade are invited
to attend the newly added, Here I am
Lord Conference workshops. The morning
session will be geared towards the
junior high youth, and help them open
up their minds and hearts towards whatever
God may be calling them to do. The
afternoon session will be for high
school youth and will be more advanced
than the morning session. Registration
is limited as each session already
has 450 students registered.
Fr. Stan Fortuna
C.F.R., will be making his third
appearance at the Chicago Regional
Conference. A founding member of
the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal
in New York, Fr. Stan is an accomplished
musician and author with numerous
audio and video projects as well as
published books. Fr. Stan will be speaking
at the high school workshop on Friday
afternoon. His topic on Friday evening, "The
Healing Power of God's Love," will
include a Mass of Eucharistic Healing.
He will conclude his appearance at
the conference with a concert on Saturday
evening.
Saturday speakers will be Curtis Martin,
founder and president of FOCUS, Fellowship
of Catholic University Students. His
talk, “Called to Greatness: Make
the Most of College and the Rest of
Your Life” will
take place during the morning session
on Saturday. Msgr. Stuart Swetland,
former chaplain at University of Illinois
and host on EWTN's Catholicism on Campus,
will speak at the afternoon session
on the topic, “Joy in Discovering
God's Plan for Your Life.” Dan
and Katie Wolff of Lisle, Illinois
will speak on the vocation of marriage
and will share with participants “Our
Journey to the Altar.” Others
will share their vocations stories
on the religious and single life. Bishop
Paprocki, Auxiliary Bishop from the
Archdiocese of Chicago, will be the
presider and homilist at the closing
Mass at 4:00 pm on Saturday.
Featured at both
the Friday workshops and Saturday
sessions will be emerging Catholic
artists Sarah Bauer and Popple. Sarah
delights in challenging young people
to dream big and believe in the great
plan God has for their lives, trusting
that their dreams are His. Bauer's “All
Access” was
recently chosen to be the 2007 Steubenville
Summer Youth Conference's Theme Song.
Her song will be played at 17 Conferences,
and heard and sung by more then 35,000
Catholic Youth this summer. Kyle
and Dan are Catholic guys who like
to have fun. They have combined these
two aspects into a milkshake they
call: Popple. They try to maximize
the fun, without watering down their
message of God's love and our responsibility.
Assuming God enjoys a good laugh too,
they use humor and on-stage antics
to keep the joy coming.
Chris Padgett, author, songwriter
and speaker will once again be the
MC of the weekend, and will be sharing
his insight, songs, and words of wisdom.
