Religious life is a gift
of God's steadfast love
to the Church, to the world.
May those the Spirit calls
to belong exclusively to Christ
receive this gift with quiet greatness
and simple trust,
echoing our Lady's noble
yes to the Father
that God may be all in all.
We, the Dominican Sisters of the
Perpetual Rosary, are a cloistered,
contemplative, diocesan, institute of
consecrated life in the Church. Called
by God, we strive to live the gift of
our religious life following the
monastic tradition of silence and
solitude in a communal setting, bearing
witness to the presence of Christ's love
in the midst of His people. We
consecrate ourselves to God by vows of
poverty, chastity, and obedience.

Founded
in 1880, at Calais in France, by Damien
Saintourens, O.P., then Director of the
Association of the Perpetual Rosary for
the Dominican Province of France, the
Sisters were to pray for the missions,
for the preaching of the Dominican
Fathers, and serve as a foundation and
administrative center for the Perpetual
Rosary movement.
In 1890, four Sisters established the
first Perpetual Rosary Community in
Hoboken (now Union City), New Jersey.
Our Milwaukee community was founded in
1897, by six Sisters from that monastery
led by Mother Mary of the Rosary Garnier,
O.P., one of the first postulants of the
institute.
Way of Life
As cloistered, contemplative members of
the Order of Preachers, we are called to
proclaim the Gospel by our way of life.
We live in the mystery of the Word who
is the Truth. The Liturgy of the
Eucharist, the center of each day, is
prolonged through the Liturgy of Hours
celebrated at appointed intervals. Each
Sister also has at least one hour during
the day for private prayer, along with
time for study, spiritual reading, work,
and communal recreation. Day and night,
hour by hour, we succeed one another,
praying the Rosary in the presence of
the Blessed Sacrament and in the company
of Mary who kept all these things and
pondered them in her heart (Lk 2:19).
Our apostolate, intercessory prayer and
contemplation of the mysteries of the
Rosary, the mysteries of our salvation,
serves the Order of Preachers and the
whole Church.
